Odia is also known as Oriya, and Odisha as Orissa, however, Odia and Odisha are now the preferred names in English as they are closer to their native names: ଓଡ଼ିଆ (oḍiā) [ɔɖiaː] and ଓଡ଼ିଶା (oḍiśā) [ɔɖisaː].
